I really liked this story. Madison seems like the seventeen-year-old that everone else seems to be missing. She has her independence and she's not a child about anything either. This explains the backstory of the tragic event that ends Madison's life. If anyone is planning to read "Once Dead, Twice Shy" you should read this first, it will save much confusion later on down the road.

Ahh i'm really glad you liked this one! It was a bit short for me, because there was no real ending (and when i read it i didn't know there was to be the novel Once Dead Twice Shy) and a lot of questions were left unanswered.
Now you can see how reading the novel without the novella would have been a bit confusing i think. =)
I enjoyed the new mythology Kim Harrison is bringing with this story.
I really like the mythology with this too. I would have never thought there were different types of reapers or even what they could be assigned to do.
I agree, I would have been pretty upset if there weren't a follow-up to the story.
