ReVamped (Book 2 of the Void City Series) by J.F. Lewis

This is the second novel in Lewis's Void City series. It did not disappoint. I give this one another enthusiastic two thumbs up!

Continuing the story of Eric and Tabitha as they try to make their way through life and all the mystery and madness that fills to the brim. Rachel, Tabitha's little sister, who was supposed to be dead, is alive and well, and has stolen Eric from her. Eric, having been blown to bits after four months is returned to his normal forgetful self, with some perks. His mustang is now a part of him. He lovingly names it Fang the 'Stang, as it is an undead car.

I truly love this car. It can drive itself, it can feed, and it's totally aware of what's going on. He's impervious to the sun, he can tint his windows to protect the vampires, if any, are inside.

This book is a struggle for Eric to fight the underlying cause of his problems from Staked. He just can't seem to figure out who is working for him, or against.

This book was full of laughs and I would recommend this book to anyone. I can't wait to hear more from this series!

*two thumbs up too* i finished reading it this week and i wasn't disappointed. (except maybe a little bit about the end but well it's not much)

I found myself enjoying Tabitha's chapters even more than in the 1st book.
Greta is scarily funny! And Talbot...well i SO want to know more about him!
I laughed a lot with this one too
The only thing that kept annoying me was Eric willing to close his eyes not to see people screwing him over! it was even more present in this book than the 1st.
I would love a 3rd book!

I'm really glad you loved this series.

Oh about the League of Reluctant Adults blog, this is where i found out about Staked. And i now realize that i have read many of these authors' books lol.

lol i now realize that i'm squatting your blog, lol sorry ;)

I really enjoy Tab in this one too. I really like how she sticks it to Phillip! And Talbot! I really wish we had more of him. So much mystery around the one character.

And squat away, missy, I like having you around to make it seem like my blog actually gets some traffic.

I'm worried about reading too much into a League of Reluctant Adults, my list is already long enough to get through without having to add much more!!

Hey you know there's something i found odd reading the book... about Marilyn...when i read the first chapter (the preview at the end of the first book) i thought this book would be about him trying to get marilyn back now that she was a ghost and all.
And i was a bit surprised about the 'end' of the Marilyn part of the story. it was a bit anticlimatic...
Well i like to be surprised , so it was good, but i would never have thought it would end this way between her and Eric.

Lol i understand that your reading list is already full! And you have amazing books waiting for you to be read

hey question, since you're going to read Cry Wolf...have you read the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs? i'm asking because Cry Wolf is taking place in the same world as the Mercy Thompson's books, lots of interactions between the characters of both series, but take place before, while and after the events in Cry Wolf.
You don't have to reat the Mercy Thompson's books to read the other series though, so it's all good =)

I'm not clear lol even i can see that! but you have special skills in Caroline language so i hope you got the translation right lol

Right. I thought the book was a fight to get her back, but then *we won't spoil it* something happens and poof, another issue takes it's place as the sole purpose of the book.

I have the Mercy Thompson books on my list to read, but haven't ready any of Briggs's stuff yet, so hopefully I'll like her. I haven't had bad luck in this area as of yet, so I am very impressed!

I think we have our own language, I completely understood what you said!

(lol we're so good at talking about 'things' without spoiling the story)
And well we thought the story was about Eric getting her back because the blurb on the back of the book said so!!!! lol

I love the Patty Briggs books *sigh* love love love
The two series, the Mercy Thompson and the Alpha and Omega are quite different, the main female characters couldn't be more different one from the other.

I received Hunting Ground this week (book 2 of the Alpha and Omega series...well book 2and a half since there's the novella in On the Prowl too) i can't wait to read it yayyy

So... I'm never sure whether I should poke my head in or not, but I'm glad to know you enjoyed the books. Thanks for the kind words! :)

Thank you so much! I'm never one to say something bad. If there's something I don't like, it would be presented merely as constructive criticism. I never tear into the author for any reason. I am very pleased that you found your way over to my blog.

I very much look forward to more of your writing!

I meant to mention this last time, forgot, and then it popped back into my head... so I popped back in. About "the end of Marilyn part".

You know, that's not exactly what I intended to have happen there. I rewrote the scene several times, but Eric just kept doing what he did in that scene, and writing it differently didn't feel like Eric. He has a tendancy to make what I would call "bite the bullet" decisions without looking at the long term. Very much a tear the bandaid off sort of guy for the most part.

Having said that, I wouldn't say we were done with Eric and Marilyn's relationship even though we may (or may not) be done with one side of it. After all, from a certain point of view, each book is about Eric's attempts to meraphorically "save Marilyn".

Whether he's rescuing Marilyn's soul (like in ReVamped) or someone else (Greta in Staked) or trying to remember what he used to be like when he was alive (being a good dad, etc) ... in those moments when the human side of Eric shows through and we see flashes of what Eric was like before his death... I think of all those moments as Eric "saving Marilyn" again. Trying to be the man she fell in love with.

He fails utterly, but in his own weird way, he keeps trying.

(I'll stop haunting the comments section now. :) )

oh no no no!! don't you stop! It's amazing to have the author answering our questions =P
Your answer does help understand Eric better. Thank you =)

Sooo in the hope that you'll still be looking this way i'm gonna ask THE question....Will we get to see "Crossed" next year? *cross fingers*

Jeremy F. Lewis said...

My fingers are crossed too. The manuscript is with my agent right now. As I've said to others, this one took me longer than usual for various reasons... some related to the whole "church issue" and some not.

From there it will go to my editor over at Pocket, who will hopefully love it and buy it and give me a release date. :) As soon as that happens, I promose to tweet, blog, and FaceBook it. Srsly.

Thanks Jeremy!
We'll be waiting for the good news =)

By all means, please haunt away!

I understand what you mean about Eric constantly trying to maintain what's left of his humanity, which leads back to him trying to be the man that Marilyn fell for.

I didn't mean for it to sound like we didn't like ReVamped, because that definitely wasn't the case. The synopsis of the book led us to believe that Marilyn's struggles would be the main part of the book. But then, so early on the struggle was over. Maybe we'll see her again, but maybe not. That's okay though. We loved the book whether it was full of Marilyn or not!

Not sure what you mean about the "church issue" but the main thing is that you've written it, and hopefully in the next year we will have another book to sink our teeth into!! :)

Re: "Church issue" - The Long Version

Just scroll down to the question, "How exactly *did* you get excommunicated from your church?"

Re: Next Book - Glad to know you're looking forward to it. :) I'm about five chapters in on book four. So if they want that one, too I hope to have it ready in a timely manner.

Wow. I'm so sorry about what they did to you. I never grew up in a church setting, never cared for it. I believed in the "worship in my own way" philosophy. Although nowadays I'm not anything in particular. Maybe Wiccan, but honestly, I haven't figured out exactly what it is I believe. Honestly I think it's in all of us. Comes from within.

Anyhoo, it's terrible what they did, and I have no doubt that it actually happened that way.

You've got your family, loyal fans, and Stanton to keep you in check. Who needs those guys when they were so eager to cast you out?

You can't deny what you are inside, no matter what anyone tells you. If you're a writer, you've got to write. You write what your heart sings, and if that makes you unworthy of belonging to a church: so be it. And that goes the same for anyone out there.

MrsMixx said...

Wow is the word! I can't believe what they did to you, wait no i can, but that's my being a bit wary of narrow-minded Churches.
It's horrible to 'threatens' your whole family like that, being shunned is horrible. I think it's very courageous to keep writing in these conditions. And it must be very difficult for you and your whole family
I really hope you'll find another Church who will accept your work, because if this one doesn't i don't think they're worthy of your presence.
Come in France, we need good authors here ;)

I really hope you'll get to publish book 3 and then book 4! I sure want to read them =)

Ah. No worries.

I try not to bring it up much, but then again, I try to not to go out of my way to avoid mentioning it either. It's weird, but it happened and it affects/affected things. That's why when it does come up, I point people to the answer I gave Lee, because at this point, that's pretty much all I have to say about it.

It does generate some interesting questions at cons though. And when I put it in a bio or it comes up in an interview, I'm always interested to see whether I get censored or not. If I use the word "excommunicated", it often gets changed to "ostracized" or "shunned" or the whole section gets pulled. Which is fine, I guess.

People can be very touchy about religion and I'm not keen on putting anybody down or getting all strident about it. So... again, no worries. It's just a thing.

Thanks for the kind thoughts though. Kind thoughts rock! :)
